Language Motor Program

During Term two and Term three a Language Motor Program (L.M.P.) is run for Preps. A Language Motor Program (also known as a Perceptual Motor Program) aims to give students experiences in seeing, hearing, touching, processing, making perceptual judgements and reacting through enjoyable, sequenced activities. These can include running, hopping, skipping, jumping, balancing, crawling and many more. As a result L.M.P. programs assist individual development of balance, locomotion and eye/hand/foot coordination skills, as well as building on social skills and self-confidence.

Each week Prep students will work through six different activities that are sequences specially to develop perception, motor skills and memory. Throughout the L.M.P. individuals will:

•    Solve problems

•    Listen to specific instructions (develop language skills)

•    Develop fundamental sports skills which enable him/her to confidently participate in major games and activities

•    Work on building their confidence and self esteem

Parent volunteers are trained in an information and demonstration session and are a crucial component of this program.
