PREP TRANSITION

Watsonia Heights understands the importance of a smooth transition to primary school. Through our extensive transition program we ensure everyone’s first experience of schooling life is welcoming and fun.
There are regular visits by Prep teachers to local kinder gardens; we want to be familiar faces to both the children and kinder staff. Throughout the year, whenever there are major events, like concerts, tabloid sports, an invitation is put forward to the local kinders to come and participate.
During term 4 we run an intensive transition program for prospective preps and prep parents. We have 3 ‘class’ sessions, where the children come in and experience what it is like to be at school, with fun activities like art sessions, making Christmas decorations, whilst meeting their buddies.
To make it a smooth transition for our new parents we run an information evening, with presentations on class routines and structures, specialist programs, school uniforms, canteen, booklists, and many other important aspects of school life at Watsonia Heights. We also provide Prep Booklets, which contain all the key information you will need when your child begins at Watsonia Heights Primary School.
If you are interested in attending our transition program, information session or would like a copy of the Prep Booklet please contact the school.

GRADE TWO TO THREE TRANSITION

Moving from the ‘little school’ (Prep to 2) to the ‘big school’ (3 to 6) can be daunting. So in term four, grade two’s partake in a transition program where they participate in lessons in a year three class and play in the senior school with a buddy. This helps alleviate worries and makes the transition to the ‘big school’ a less stressful experience.

GRADE SIX TRANSITION TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

Transition for the Grade six students from Primary School to Secondary School is also a very important part of your child's life.  At Watsonia Heights we ensure this again is a smooth transition for all students.
Throughout the year we have visits from a range of Secondary Schools who discuss with students what they offer at their Secondary School. Students from those schools come to speak to our students about the different types of things that take place at Secondary School.
The Grade Six staff also provide information to the Secondary School teachers to help them understand your child.
Throughout the year Watsonia Heights is also involved with Secondary Schools to run programs and even to view their Productions and Performances.
