Principals Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Watsonia Heights Primary School!

At WHPS, we STRIVE to create an engaging, caring, and inclusive environment where all students are supported to thrive. Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to achieving the best possible academic and wellbeing outcomes for each child.

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential to fostering a powerful learning environment. We place great value on community involvement and warmly welcome families to participate in the life of the school. Whether it’s supporting classroom activities such as reading, volunteering at sporting events or concerts, helping in the canteen, joining the School Council, or attending working bees, there are many ways to get involved. Our active Parents and Friends group, Community Links, plays a key role in both fundraising and coordinating social events to strengthen our school community.

Creating a high-quality learning experience relies on many elements. Our dedicated and talented teachers deliver explicit, evidence-based instruction aligned with the Science of Learning model. We encourage students to develop their interests and talents across a wide range of programs, including sport, performing and visual arts, an instrumental music program, and a variety of clubs such as chess, LEGO, gardening, science, Mandarin, and coding.

We also provide opportunities for students to grow as leaders both formally and informally through roles such as school captains, subject captains, our Buddy Program, and leading school assemblies. Leadership and student voice are important components of our learning culture.

Equally, we place strong emphasis on student wellbeing and social development. Our school promotes a positive self-image, respectful relationships, and a collaborative, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment. We are committed to nurturing a strong sense of community built on respect, trust, and the active involvement of all stakeholders in the school’s continuous growth.

In recent years, we’ve made significant improvements to our facilities and have been fortunate to secure major capital works funding to transform our learning spaces into vibrant, modern environments. We have also invested in upgrading and expanding our playgrounds to support student health and wellbeing.

At WHPS, we operate with an ‘open door’ communication policy. We welcome your feedback and encourage open, honest and respectful conversations to address concerns quickly and collaboratively. Together, we can ensure the very best for your child.

Thank you for being part of the Watsonia Heights Primary School community. I look forward to working with you to support your child on their educational journey.

Warm regards,

Tony Ryan
Principal
